A History of Hope and Caergwrle paints a broad picture of two linked villages with very different histories. Beginning with the prehistoric finds of the area, the authors take the reader through the medieval period, the Civil War, the Industrial Revolution, the development of Caergwrle as a spa resort, through to the twentieth century, the disruption and tragedy of two world wars, and the social and economic strains placed upon both communities with the decline of most of the significant local employment.
As well as a study of the structure of the two communities, this books provides an insight into the individuals and organisations (including schools, churches and chapels and volunetter groups) which made up the two societies.
Profusely illustrated, this book is a major step towards preserving the historical identity of the parish of Hope.
264pp, 190 x 245mm, softback, illustrated.
